Christian Music Growth
No doubt you've noticed the growth of Christian music yourself, with
profiles of Christian music artists in media such at the New York Times,
Forbes, Time Magazine and The Wall Street Journal becoming
commonplace. Plus the music has further been pushed into the general
marketplace with the presence of national companies like EMI, Zomba, and
Warner Bros. operating Christian music record labels.
The Christian music genre continues to be a strong performer, being one of
the few genres to actually show a 2006 calendar year sales increase,
climbing 3.5% to almost 45 million units sold. This comes after a
skyrocket increase of 50% in the last half of the last decade (1/13/00 USA
Today). And it's music that's no longer hidden in the confines of
the church. In fact, in 2006, 64% of all Christian music sales were
made through general market retailers like Target and Walmart, up from 34%
in 1999.

Howard
Stern, Rush Limbaugh, Laura Schlesinger, and Sean Hannity
are known to have large radio audiences. But
Christian radio programming reaches millions more
listeners than any of those highly rated shows.
According to survey results from Barna Research Group, 46
out of every 100 adults listen to some Christian radio
programming during the course of a typical month and 16
out of every 100 listen at least daily.
And just who are these listeners?
- Nearly 1/3 of those claiming not to be "born again
Christians" tune in at least monthly and nearly 1/4
of all "unchurched" Americans listen in any
given month.
- Among all of the born again adults in the U.S.,
three-fourths (75%) listen in a typical month. (Barna

Christian-formatted
stations find their listeners to be perhaps the most loyal
in all of radio. Christian music programming
reflects the lifestyle and core values held dear by its
listening audience. The format isn't just about
entertainment. It goes deeper than that. It's
about a Lifestyle. This gives Christian formats
something that cannot be obtained through any
advertisement on any other radio format - CREDIBILITY!
So tap into this largely responsive genre today.
