    7.
  11. List which audio channels labels are currently available on the Unity 4000:

  12. To find out what audio channels are available on the Unity 4000, you need only query the receiver for an MPEG status.
    1. Press <Right> 4 times.  Press <SELECT> when you see STATUS REPORTS.
    2. Press <Right> 2 times.  Press <SELECT> when you see the MPEG STATUS.
    3. Press <Right> 3 times.  AUDIO PRESENCE will show on the top line, with the 3-letter codes for each audio channel listed below.  Use the <Right> and <Left> keys to scroll through the list.

    4.
  13. Tune a certain audio channel to a certain port:

  14. Properly route a dual-mono channel:

  15. An audio channel may be encoded at the originating source as either a Mono signal or as a Dual Mono signal.  If the signal is encoded as Dual Mono, it may actually be a stereo pair, or it may have discreet (independent) audio on left and right inputs.  If you desire to utilize a dual-mono audio channel that contains discreet audio, you will have to select the appropriate Route setting when you select the audio channel.  As noted above, the following four choices are available:

    S
    Stereo
Encoder Left input to Receiver Left output
Encoder Right input to Receiver Right output
    1
    1 on Both
Encoder Left input to Receiver Left output
Encoder Left input to Receiver Right output
    2
    2 on Both
Encoder Right input to Receiver Left output
Encoder Right input to Receiver Right output
    R
    Reverse Stereo
Encoder Left input to Receiver Right output
Encoder Right input to Receiver Left output

You may set just the audio routing by following the above steps, and change just the routing without adjusting the Service.  This only works when you are not using Preselect configurations, as the Preselects store the audio routing.

  16. Properly route a mono channel:
If the signal is encoded as a mono source, the receiver will output the same signal on both Left and Right outputs, regardless of the Route setting.

  17. Set the receiver label:
You can change the default label on the front LCD screen to any 20-character label. To do so:
    1. Press <Right> 3 times.  Press <SELECT> when you see HARDWARE SETUP.
    2. Press <Right> 6 times.  Press <SELECT> when you see the UNIT LABEL.
    3. Use <Left> and <Right> to select the letter.  The <UP> and <DOWN> buttons may be used to change the individual letter to your desired label.
    4. Press <ENTER> to save changes, or <SELECT> to cancel.

    5.
  18. Set up the receiver serial ports:
    1. Press <Right> 3 times.  Press <SELECT> when you see HARDWARE SETUP.
    2. Press <Right> 4 times.  Press <SELECT> when you see SERIAL PORTS.
    3. Press <SELECT> to edit the two serial ports' configuration. You may have either port as any of: Printer, Terminal, Modem, or Aux Data. The only limitation is that you may not have both Modem and Terminal selected at the same time.  Use <Right> or <Left> to modify the other serial port, and <UP> and <DOWN> to modify the selection.
    4. Press <ENTER> to save changes, or <SELECT> to cancel.

    5.
  19. Set up the printer or terminal baud rate on the serial ports:
    1. Press <Right> 3 times.  Press <SELECT> when you see HARDWARE SETUP.
    2. Press <Right> 4 times.  Press <SELECT> when you see the SERIAL PORTS.
    3. Press <Right> 2 times for the Printer settings, or 3 times for the Modem settings.
Press <SELECT> when you see PRINTER SETTINGS or MODEM SETTINGS, as appropriate.
NOTE: The Terminal settings are slaved to follow the Modem settings.  Set the Modem speed to change the Terminal speed.
Technical note: It is possible to change this behavior. If you desire the Terminal serial port to always be 19200 regardless of the setting of the Modem Port speed, or if you desire to restore the normal behavior whereby the Terminal speed follows the Modem speed, consult the instructions here.
Note: If you are making baud, parity, etc. changes to the Modem port (the same driver used for the Terminal port), changes will take effect when the receiver is rebooted UNLESS you change the mode of the ports at the same time (e.g. change a port from Printer mode to Terminal mode) at which point the changes will be effective immediately.
    4. When the baud rate begins flashing, use <UP> and <DOWN> to modify the baud of the serial port. (The Printer Port allows modification of the Parity setting but the Modem Port does not.)
    5. Press <ENTER> to save changes, or <SELECT> to cancel.
    6. Note: If, after setting the Terminal baud rate to 9600, you are unable to communicate to the Unity 4000 receiver via its Terminal serial port, read this note.

    7.
  20. Read email when the front panel says "WARNING: Email Present":
    1. Press <Right> 2 times.  Press <SELECT> when you see EMAIL  READ:<SELECT>
    2. Press <Right> as many times as needed to scroll through the message. <Left> may be used to scroll backwards if needed.
    3. Press <ENTER> when you see --END OF EMAIL--
    4. Press <SELECT> when RETURN displays.
    5. At this point you have the option of reading the email again or Clearing it.
Press <SELECT> to read it again, or <ENTER> to clear it from memory.
To return to the previous menu without either reading or clearing the email, press <Left> twice.
    6. NOTE: Email will be overwritten each time a new message arrives.  Therefore, it is important to read email as soon as possible after it arrives.
